since 2019, viktor benev has undertaken a silent, yet consistent journey of exploring the endless horizons of electroacoustic
music created in a controlled environment, that of a recording studio. an introverted dialogue with sound itself, rather than
scoring in the traditional classical way. this approach, combined with a personal manifesto on music creation he wrote back
in 2020 (available on his website), has given birth to "aeon", "architextures" and "five dreams", all three being works of
exploratory nature, which were not conceived to be performed live. instead, like a still-life or sculpture, they capture
extended artistic work periods to display the constant need of the musician to go deeper into the unknown nature of music
and how it manifests itself to us. this process seems to preoccupy many composers and songwriters and up to this day,
remains a total mystery.
cross origin affair draws on this trial and error with many of the works being palimpsests – many of the original
ideas and themes have been erased or recorded over to accommodate fresh new material in order to accomplish the final
versions of the tracks. the album compiles ideas dating from the years 2021-2025 and presents an entity in which influences
from eastern and bulgarian traditional music, ambient, detroit techno, house music culture, pure electronica, trip hop,
drum'n'bass heritage, musique concrète (in terms of sampling and working with sound objects) all intermingle in a curated
narrative presented in the form of 13 music pieces.
